Premiering September 10, ‘Chumbak’ celebrates a world where neighbours become family and everyday chaos becomes comedy
Mumbai, August 26, 2026: Paanch padosi, dus dost aur anginat hungame (Five neighbours, ten friends and endless fun). Netflix has unveiled the trailer of Chumbak, a multi-generational, feel-good family comedy set in one lively neighbourhood. The series brings together the warmth, chaos and nostalgia of a place where everyone knows everyone, and where even the smallest problem can quickly become everyone’s concern.
From Hats Off Production, the creators behind beloved cult comedies Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi, Chumbak is written and directed by Aatish Kapadia. The series is produced by Jamnadas (JD) Majethia and Aatish Kapadia.
Set in a contemporary urban Indian neighbourhood, Chumbak follows five families whose lives are closely connected. Here, neighbours are not simply the people living next door. They become permanent parivaar (family), sharing everyday moments, celebrations, worries and, of course, endless opinions.
In this neighbourhood, nobody really lives alone. There is always someone ready with unsolicited advice, a helping hand, a cup of chai or a reason to drop by. A small issue inside one home can quickly become a full-blown colony matter. It is this familiar dynamic that forms the heart of Chumbak and gives the series its easy-going humour.
A Neighbourhood Full of Familiar Faces
The trailer offers a glimpse into the wonderfully chaotic world of Chumbak. It introduces a colourful group of eccentric yet instantly familiar characters. Each family brings its own quirks, relationships and brand of chaos, while the connections between them keep the neighbourhood buzzing.
At the centre of this world are families who may be very different from one another, yet feel remarkably familiar.
Mickey and Twinkle Oberoi, played by Arjun Bijlani and Helly Shah, are hopelessly romantic lovebirds. They live in their own little La La Land, adding a romantic and playful energy to the colony.
Then there are Aditya and Priyanka Khanna, played by Sumeet Vyas and Manasi Parekh. They appear to be a calm and zen couple, but their peaceful equation is anything but quiet.
The Taraporewala family brings another layer of unpredictability. Mumma Gulshan, Freddy and Hutoxi Taraporewala, played by Delnaaz Irani, Anant V. Joshi and Amyra Dastur, form what the series describes as the Parsi Bermuda Triangle. Their family dynamics are as unpredictable as they are entertaining.
Rajni and Kuku Merchant, played by Neena Gupta and Deven Bhojani, are perpetually at loggerheads. Yet, beneath their constant disagreements, they remain completely in love with each other.
Meanwhile, Dharmendra and Kiran Kejriwal, played by Sumeet Raghvan and Sandeepa Dhar, take the familiar idea of “pati, patni aur patipatni” to an entirely new level.
Together, these characters create a neighbourhood where there is never a dull moment.
From family squabbles and marital quirks to parenting dilemmas, celebrations and inevitable neighbourhood gossip, Chumbak finds its comedy in situations that audiences have seen, experienced or, very likely, been dragged into themselves.
Netflix Expands Its World of Comedy

Chumbak brings that spirit into a contemporary setting. The series celebrates the small interactions, quirky personalities and everyday moments that can make a neighbourhood feel like home.
It is a world where privacy can be difficult to find, but support is never far away. Advice may arrive without being requested. Gossip may travel faster than expected. Yet, somewhere between the arguments, laughter and constant involvement, neighbours become family.
JD Majethia and Aatish Kapadia Bring Their Comic Voice to Netflix
