Starting tomorrow, January 14, Indian workers applying for a Saudi Arabia work visa must complete a pre-verification of their professional and academic qualifications. This new requirement is part of the kingdom’s ongoing efforts to streamline its labour sector in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
Indians are the second-largest group of expatriates in Saudi Arabia, with more than 2.4 million residents, as per the Ministry of External Affairs. Only workers from Bangladesh outnumber them in the region.
The idea of pre-verification was introduced six months ago and is now being implemented. Saudi Arabia aims to make employment contracts more flexible for expatriates and has also tightened certification requirements for certain professions.
According to a circular issued by the Saudi mission in India, professional verification will now be mandatory for obtaining a work visa.
Updates on Residency and Visa Rules
Saudi Arabia has also updated its rules for expatriates renewing their residency permits (Iqama) or extending exit and re-entry visas. The General Directorate of Passports announced on social media that dependents of expatriates, as well as domestic workers who are outside Saudi Arabia, can now renew their Iqama. Immigrants living abroad can also extend their single or multiple exit and re-entry visas.
