Tourists visiting Gulmarg now have a thrilling new way to experience its breathtaking landscapes-by helicopter. A new service is offering aerial rides to Sunshine Point, providing visitors with a unique perspective of the snow-covered meadows and towering peaks.
The initiative has been launched by Kashmiri entrepreneur Majeed Bakshi, who invested ₹40 crore in acquiring a helicopter. Initially intended to transport skiers to higher slopes, the helicopter is now being used for joyrides, catering to adventure seekers and nature lovers alike.
The rides, priced between ₹11,000 and ₹15,000 per trip depending on the destination, have quickly gained popularity. Among the various routes available, Sunshine Point has emerged as the most sought-after spot. The short but breathtaking journey offers panoramic views of Gulmarg, making it a must-try experience for visitors.
Designed and painted in France, the helicopter is operated by two experienced pilots. Each ride provides passengers with a bird’s-eye view of Gulmarg’s pristine valleys, snow-laden pine forests, and the distant Himalayan peaks. The thrill of flying over one of India’s most scenic tourist destinations has drawn excitement from both domestic and international travellers.
Encouraged by the enthusiastic response, Bakshi has plans to expand helicopter services to other well-known tourist spots in Kashmir, including Sonamarg and Pahalgam. He believes such ventures can significantly boost the region’s tourism industry by offering premium adventure experiences that rival those in international destinations.
As the first Kashmiri to own a helicopter, Bakshi sees this initiative as a step towards diversifying tourism options in the valley. While Kashmir is already famous for its stunning landscapes, introducing high-end adventure tourism like helicopter rides can attract a new category of travellers looking for exclusive experiences.
With the increasing popularity of luxury travel and adventure tourism, Gulmarg’s helicopter rides have positioned themselves as a unique attraction. Whether for thrill-seekers, honeymooners, or families looking to add an unforgettable experience to their trip, soaring above Kashmir’s winter wonderland is proving to be a game-changer in the region’s tourism scene.
