Intercity travel in India is becoming more organised as mobility platform IntrCity SmartBus expands its physical infrastructure across key travel corridors and pilgrimage destinations. The company has announced the rollout of Mobility Hubs and Fresh N Up Lounges aimed at improving passenger convenience, reducing travel uncertainty and creating a more comfortable journey experience.

At present, IntrCity SmartBus operates three Mobility Hubs located in Anand Vihar in Delhi, Katra in Jammu and Sangamwadi in Maharashtra. In addition, the company has established Fresh N Up Lounges in Tirupati, Katra and Ujjain. These facilities complement its existing network of more than 25 SmartBus Lounges and over 100 boarding partners across the country.

The move reflects a growing focus on improving the on-ground experience of bus travel. While digital ticket booking and online payments have made travel planning easier, passengers often continue to face challenges related to boarding locations, waiting facilities and travel coordination. IntrCity says its latest infrastructure expansion is designed to address these gaps.

The newly developed Mobility Hubs function as organised boarding centres where passengers can wait and board buses from a single location. Each hub can accommodate more than 100 passengers at a time and allows multiple buses to operate from the same facility. The idea is to replace scattered roadside pickup points with dedicated spaces that offer greater clarity and convenience.

Passengers using these hubs have access to air-conditioned waiting areas, toilets, internet connectivity, charging stations and refreshments. The facilities also include dedicated resting spaces for drivers and Bus Captains, helping improve crew comfort during long-distance operations.

According to the company, centralised boarding can help reduce confusion regarding pickup locations, minimise delays and make departure schedules more predictable. Better coordination between passengers, ground staff and bus crews is also expected to improve overall operational efficiency.

Speaking about the initiative, IntrCity spokesperson Dinesh Rathi said the company aims to bring greater structure to the bus travel experience while also supporting the wellbeing of operational staff. He noted that the vision behind the Mobility Hubs goes beyond passenger comfort and seeks to improve the overall functioning of intercity bus services.

The company is now planning to expand the Mobility Hub model to other important travel markets, including Chennai, Hyderabad and Lucknow. Emerging cities such as Trichy and Rajahmundry are also being considered as part of the next phase of growth. Future expansion will depend on passenger demand, route traffic and operational requirements.

Alongside these hubs, IntrCity has introduced Fresh N Up Lounges at major pilgrimage destinations. These facilities offer cloak rooms, shower areas, changing rooms and beverages, allowing travellers to freshen up before visiting religious sites. The concept is particularly useful for pilgrims undertaking same-day trips who may not require hotel accommodation.

The company says it will explore opportunities to introduce similar lounges at other pilgrimage centres in the future.

With a growing network of hubs, lounges and boarding partners, IntrCity SmartBus is seeking to create a more organised travel ecosystem. By combining technology-driven services with physical infrastructure, the company aims to make intercity bus journeys more predictable, comfortable and convenient for travellers across India.
