If you have been stuck in traffic near Mahalaxmi Railway Station, relief is on the way. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is building two new flyovers to untangle this congestion-prone area.
Currently, the 100-year-old Mahalaxmi Bridge is the only major link between Mahalaxmi and areas like Worli and Haji Ali. As vehicle numbers soar, it’s struggling to keep up. To fix this, the BMC is constructing:
- A Cable-stayed flyover on Keshavrao Khadye Road: This will be the BMC’s first cable-stayed bridge over railway tracks, connecting Saat Rasta to Mahalaxmi Railway Station for a smoother commute.
- A flyover from E. Moses Road to Dhobi Ghat Road: Spanning 639 meters, this flyover will connect E. Moses Road to Dhobi Ghat, providing an alternative route towards Worli and reducing pressure on the existing road network.
What BMC says
In its latest update, BMC confirmed that both projects are part of the city’s Development Plan and are moving forward at full speed.
- A flyover is being constructed on Dr. E. Moses Road near Mahalaxmi Railway Station, along with a cable-stayed flyover on Keshavrao Khadye Marg. These projects are being executed as per the Development Plan.
- Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar inspected the ongoing flyover construction on 26 February 2025.
- He directed the concerned officers to ensure the timely completion of the project at an accelerated pace while taking the necessary precautions to prevent any delays during the monsoon season.
- Furthermore, he instructed that planning must commence immediately to ensure the commissioning of the flyover for vehicular movement by 31st October 2026.
- Chief Engineer (Bridges) Uttam Shrote, Deputy Chief Engineer Rajesh Mule, and other officials were also present during the inspection.

When will it be ready?
BMC has set October 31, 2026, as the target date for both flyovers to be operational. To ensure this, officials have been directed to speed up work while preparing for any weather-related hurdles.
Infrastructure development does not come cheap. The combined cost of these projects stands at Rs 497 crore:
- Cable-Stayed Flyover: Rs 400 crore
- E. Moses Road Flyover: Rs 97 crore

Once completed, these flyovers will reduce congestion, save travel time, and make commuting in Mahalaxmi much smoother. If you are one of the many who struggle through this area daily, this project promises a significant improvement in your journey.
