Growing concerns about chemical-laden food and pesticide-heavy farming have triggered a rising demand for organic produce across Indian cities. Addressing this issue, Indian MMA fighter and actor Sangram Singh has joined hands with Gujarat-based farmer-entrepreneur Shailesh Jaria to launch an organic food initiative called Gir Veggies in Mumbai.

The brand was officially introduced at a press conference in Mumbai, where Sangram Singh was also announced as the brand ambassador. The initiative aims to promote chemical-free farming and deliver fresh organic fruits and vegetables directly from farms to urban consumers.

Speaking at the launch, Shailesh Jaria highlighted the rising health risks linked to contaminated food. According to him, increasing cases of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer and heart ailments are often associated with the long-term consumption of chemically treated produce.

Jaria explained that the idea behind Gir Veggies emerged from a simple but serious concern: many people unknowingly consume harmful chemicals through everyday fruits and vegetables. This realisation motivated him to revive traditional farming practices and provide healthier food alternatives.

The produce under the Gir Veggies brand is cultivated at “Shaileshbhai Ni Wadi”, a farm located in Amrapur Gir village in Junagadh district of Gujarat. The farm follows organic cultivation techniques rooted in traditional agricultural practices.

The farm currently grows more than 30 varieties of fruits and over 50 varieties of vegetables. These include mangoes, guavas, bananas, papayas, pomegranates and jamun. Along with fruits and vegetables, the farm also cultivates essential grains such as wheat, millet, maize, chickpeas and pigeon pea (tur dal).

The objective is to ensure that consumers receive fresh, naturally grown produce without chemical pesticides or artificial fertilisers.

Praising the initiative, Sangram Singh said that modern urban lifestyles have gradually disconnected people from nature and pure food sources. He recalled that during childhood, it was common to pluck fruits directly from trees and enjoy naturally grown produce.

He described the Gir Veggies initiative as a positive step towards reconnecting people with natural food. Singh also shared that he personally tasted fruits grown at the farm and found them to be fresh and high in quality.

Gir Veggies will initially begin its home delivery services in Mumbai’s Kandivali, Borivali, Dahisar and Malad areas. The organic fruits and vegetables will be delivered twice a week directly to consumers.

The initiative aims to build a stronger connection between farmers and consumers while making chemical-free food more accessible in urban markets.

Interestingly, Sangram Singh is also preparing for an international MMA bout scheduled on April 5, 2026, in Argentina under the Samurai Fight League, where he will compete against a fighter from France.
