2025 Maruti Suzuki WagonR: Safety Gets a Major Upgrade
Maruti Suzuki has rolled out a major safety update for its best-selling hatchback, the WagonR. The 2025 model now comes with six airbags as standard across all variants — a significant leap from the earlier two-airbag setup.
This includes dual front airbags, side airbags for front occupants, and curtain airbags, making it the most safety-equipped WagonR yet. The move aligns with broader industry shifts toward higher safety standards, especially for entry-level cars.
New Price Bracket and Variants
The updated WagonR is available in four familiar variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+. Prices now start at ₹5.64 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base LXi MT variant and go up to ₹7.35 lakh for the ZXi+ AGS variant.
The price jump of around ₹13,000 reflects the safety additions and minor feature tweaks. Even with the increase, the WagonR remains one of the most affordable family hatchbacks offering six airbags as standard.
What Else Is New?
Design-wise, the WagonR retains its well-known tall-boy stance. Feature-wise, it continues to offer:
- A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 14-inch alloy wheels
- Electrically adjustable ORVMs
- Rear parking sensors
- ABS with EBD
- Electronic stability program
- Central locking
Under the hood, the WagonR continues to offer two engine options:
- 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol
- 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol
Both are available with 5-speed manual or AMT gearboxes. The 1.0-litre engine also supports a factory-fitted CNG option for those looking for better fuel economy.
What This Means for Buyers
The 2025 upgrade significantly boosts the WagonR’s appeal, especially for safety-conscious buyers in the small car segment. With six airbags now standard, Maruti is finally responding to customer and regulatory pressure for improved occupant protection — without pricing the car out of reach.
