Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal will visit Muscat, Oman, for two days, starting Monday 27 January 2025 for the 11th Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) with Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, Qais bin Mohammed al-Yousef.
The visit highlights India’s commitment to enhancing trade and investment relations with Oman, a key partner in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Bilateral trade between the two nations reached over $ 8.94 billion in 2023–2024. According to an official release, the following are the key agendas of the Goyal’s visit.
- Discussions on Trade and CEPA
- The ministers will engage in talks covering trade, investment, and global economic trends.
- Discussions on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), currently in advanced negotiations, are expected to gain momentum. Both nations are working towards a balanced, ambitious, and mutually beneficial CEPA.
- Business Delegation and Joint Business Council Meeting
- A business delegation will accompany the Minister for a Joint Business Council meeting between the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
- High-Level Meetings and Industry Interactions
- Shri Goyal is expected to meet Oman’s Minister of Finance, H.E. Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, who also chairs the Ministerial Committee for CEPA.
- Additional meetings with H.E. Sheikh Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, President of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), and representatives of Oman’s industry and Indian expatriates are planned.
This visit is expected to strengthen economic ties and promote investment opportunities between India and Oman.
