Telangana is set to host Miss World 2025, a major international event that is expected to boost tourism and global attention. However, the state government’s decision to allocate Rs 200 crore for the event has sparked political controversy. While Chief Minister Revanth Reddy defends the move as a strategic investment, opposition leaders, including K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), have slammed the Congress-led government for extravagant spending.
A global event with a big price tag
Miss World is one of the most prestigious beauty pageants in the world, drawing contestants and audiences from across the globe. Telangana is gearing up to showcase its culture, heritage, and infrastructure on an international stage. The government argues that hosting such an event will bring global investors, promote tourism, and elevate Hyderabad’s global brand.
Revanth Reddy’s government believes the economic benefits outweigh the costs. Officials claim that international events bring in tourism revenue, create jobs, and enhance Telangana’s reputation as a global destination.
However, critics argue that spending Rs 200 crore of public funds on a beauty pageant is unnecessary. Opposition leaders, especially from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), question the government’s priorities, pointing out Telangana’s ongoing struggles in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
KTR vs. Congress: The Political showdown
BRS leader KTR has been vocal in his criticism, calling the Rs 200 crore allocation a wasteful expenditure. He accused the Congress government of misusing taxpayer money for an event that does not directly benefit the people.
“At a time when farmers are struggling and key projects need funding, spending Rs 200 crore on a beauty pageant is irresponsible,” KTR said in a public statement.
The Congress government, however, insists that Miss World 2025 will attract international investments and boost Telangana’s global standing. They claim that major economic hubs like Dubai and Singapore often host such events to attract global business.
Telangana’s Miss World connection
Interestingly, Miss World 2024 winner Krystyna Pyszková recently visited Yadagirigutta temple in Telangana. Her visit was seen as a promotional effort ahead of the 2025 event, highlighting the state’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Telangana now faces the challenge of justifying its massive budget while ensuring that the event delivers long-term benefits. Whether this move will boost the state’s economy or backfire as political baggage remains to be seen.
As preparations continue, the debate around Miss World 2025 in Telangana is only getting louder.
