Mumbai Climate Week opened with a strong focus on collaboration and accountability as actor, producer and UN Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza participated in the inaugural summit. The three-day event brought together climate leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs and sustainability advocates from across India and the Global South.
On the opening day, Dia Mirza moderated a panel titled Rewriting the Climate Future. The discussion featured Rajiv Shah, President of The Rockefeller Foundation, and Mridula Ramesh, founder of the Sundaram Climate Institute. The session focused on accelerating climate solutions, financing innovation and strengthening resilience in vulnerable regions.
Addressing the gathering, Dia Mirza emphasised that climate action directly affects everyday life. She noted that discussions must move beyond policy frameworks to tangible outcomes that improve air quality, water security and community resilience. She added that platforms like Mumbai Climate Week help convert urgency into measurable action.
Later in the programme, Dia Mirza introduced representatives from The Earthshot Prize, the global environmental award founded by Prince William. The audience viewed a special recorded message from Prince William, highlighting the importance of global cooperation and acknowledging India’s growing leadership in climate innovation and sustainable solutions.
Mumbai Climate Week is organised by Project Mumbai in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The summit is being held at the Jio World Cultural Centre, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India in Bandra Kurla Complex.
The event agenda includes discussions on renewable energy, electric mobility, climate finance and urban resilience. Parallel city-wide engagements are also scheduled throughout the week to involve citizens, institutions and industry stakeholders.
As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable megacities, Mumbai faces increasing challenges related to flooding, rising temperatures and infrastructure stress. Organisers say the summit aims to strengthen urban sustainability frameworks and encourage scalable climate action initiatives.
With participation from civic authorities, global foundations, corporate leaders and grassroots organisations, Mumbai Climate Week seeks to position the city as a key hub for climate dialogue and innovation in South Asia.
Further sessions and announcements are expected over the coming days.
