Folks along Maharashtra’s coast, heads up Cyclone Shakti is making its way in, and there’s no light breeze. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) put out a fresh alert on October 4, 2025, saying this storm from the Arabian Sea will slam into the northern parts of the state today and tomorrow. The spots to watch closely are Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. These districts sit right in the path, and things could get rough fast.
IMD’s forecast calls for winds picking up to 45 to 55 kilometers per hour along the coast, with sudden gusts pushing 65 kmph. That kind of force can topple trees, damage roofs, and make roads slippery as anything. It starts today, October 4, and sticks around through October 5, though the watch stays on until the 7th. The sea will churn up very rough waves too, so anyone thinking of heading out on a boat should think again. Fishermen got a clear warning: Stay on shore until it’s over.
The big push now is keeping people safe in low spots near the water. Coastal villages, areas close to the shore in Mumbai and beyond they’re at risk of flooding if rains kick in hard. District teams across these areas are on it, turning on their disaster plans. That means lining up spots to move folks to higher ground if needed, sending out alerts on phones and local broadcasts, and making sure no one heads out to sea. The state government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has sent word to all admins: Get ready, keep the public in the loop, and watch for heavy downpours that could swell rivers or block drains.
Not just the coast, either. Inland parts like eastern Vidarbha and chunks of Marathwada could see heavy to very heavy rain from the storm’s pull. Thick, dark clouds are already hanging low over North Konkan’s lower zones, and more moisture in the air means flash floods aren’t off the table. Public tips are simple: Stock up on food and water, charge your devices for IMD updates, and skip unnecessary trips. If you’re in a flood-prone spot, know your exit route.
This cyclone hits at a time when everyone’s still shaking off the monsoon leftovers, but the prep work shows Maharashtra’s learned a thing or two from past storms. Keep an ear on local radio or the IMD app for the latest winds like these don’t mess around. Stay dry, stay safe, and let’s hope Shakti loses steam quickly.
