A string of tremors hits again, no damage yet
A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan at 1:44 AM IST on 10 May 2025, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km, with coordinates 29.67°N, 66.10°E.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. However, seismologists warned of possible aftershocks due to the quake’s shallow depth.
Chain Reaction of Quakes
This tremor isn’t alone. On 6 May, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake shook Pakistan and Afghanistan, also at 10 km depth. A week before that, on 30 April, a 4.4 magnitude quake struck the region at 50 km depth.
The strongest recent jolt came on 12 April, when a 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the area. That one too was just 10 km deep, sparking serious concerns among experts.
Fault Lines Fuel Fear
Pakistan sits along the collision zone of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, one of the most active seismic regions in the world. Provinces like Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir are especially at risk.
Seismologists say tectonic stress is building in these zones. While no casualties or damage have been reported in the latest quake, major seismic activity remains a threat.
Public on Alert, No Panic Yet
Though this quake didn’t cause destruction, the frequency of recent tremors has people on edge. Social media showed light concern, but no widespread panic was reported.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
