Saturday, January 18

Ekadashi is an important fasting day in the Hindu calendar, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It occurs twice each month on the 11th day of the waxing and waning moon. In January 2025, two key Ekadashis will be observed:

1. Pausha Putrada Ekadashi (January 10, 2025)

This Ekadashi is especially significant for couples wishing to be blessed with children. The fasting period begins on January 9 at 12:22 PM and ends on January 10 at 10:19 AM. During this time, devotees observe fasting, prayers, chanting of mantras, and acts of charity to seek Lord Vishnu’s blessings.
Parana time (when the fast is broken) will be on January 11, from 7:14 AM to 8:21 AM.

2. Shattila Ekadashi (January 25, 2025)

Shattila Ekadashi is a day of honoring Lord Vishnu through fasting and acts of charity. Devotees offer sesame seeds (til) as a symbol of purity and donate to those in need. It is believed that this Ekadashi purifies the soul and brings victory over negativity.

Key Rituals and Significance:

  • Fasting: Devotees fast by abstaining from food, consuming only water or fruits. This helps purify both the body and mind.
  • Prayer and Chanting: Devotees chant sacred prayers, especially the Vishnu Sahasranama, to receive divine blessings.
  • Charity: Giving to the poor and sharing essentials is a central part of Ekadashi, reflecting the value of selflessness.
  • Spiritual Growth: Observing Ekadashi is believed to cleanse away sins, promoting spiritual development and inner peace.

Spiritual Importance of Ekadashi:

Ekadashi is a time to renew one’s devotion to Lord Vishnu. Fasting and prayer on this day help devotees achieve peace, health, prosperity, and spiritual liberation (moksha). It is a powerful occasion to break free from negative influences and grow spiritually.
