The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition (CoEET) at TERI’s Hyderabad campus. The Centre will focus on accelerating India’s energy transition through research, innovation, and capacity building.
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal described the initiative as transformative, saying, “The Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition is a bold and transformative initiative that underscores India’s commitment to achieving sustainable development goals. By fostering cutting-edge research, collaboration, and innovation, the Centre will act as a catalyst for clean energy adoption, enabling us to lead the global transition to a low-carbon economy. This partnership between BEE and TERI sets a benchmark for future collaborations in the energy sector.”
The CoEET will develop strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency, and promote low-carbon technologies across industries, MSMEs, transport, buildings, power, and mining sectors. The Centre will also focus on energy-efficient systems, such as advanced boilers, smart manufacturing, and waste heat recovery technologies.
The Centre’s governance will involve representatives from BEE, TERI, and the Ministry of Power. With financial support from BEE and operational management by TERI, the Centre aims to foster collaborations with corporations, academia, and international organisations to tackle global energy challenges.
The CoEET marks a significant step toward achieving India’s sustainable development goals, supporting energy security, and positioning the country as a global leader in energy transition innovation.
