The Government e Marketplace (GeM) has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing ₹4 lakh crore in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) within just 10 months of the Fiscal Year 2024-25. As of 23rd January 2025, GeM has registered a GMV of ₹4.09 Lakh Crore, reflecting a nearly 50% increase over the same period last year.
The services segment contributed ₹2.54 Lakh Crore, or 62% of the total GMV, while the product segment accounted for ₹1.55 Lakh Crore, or 38%. The services segment has seen rapid growth, with a nearly 100% increase compared to the previous year, fuelled by the introduction of 19 new service categories, such as data centre operations and specialised printing services.
Central Government entities have been key contributors to GeM’s growth this fiscal year. The Ministry of Coal emerged as the largest procurer, with ₹1.63 Lakh Crore in transactions and over ₹42,000 Crore in bids placed for transport services by Coal PSUs.
GeM’s platform has streamlined procurement for both routine and high-end items, including advanced technologies and defence components. With over 2.59 crore orders processed since its inception, the portal continues to demonstrate its efficiency, handling a record 49,960 orders in a single day.
As GeM’s network expands to 1.6 lakh government buyers and over 22.5 lakh sellers, it is positioned to further drive innovation and efficiency in the public procurement sector.
