The Government of India has announced a new set of GST reforms to make daily living easier and healthier for citizens. These changes aim to empower the youth, promote fitness, and improve access to affordable transport.
GST on gyms and fitness centres has been reduced from 18% to 5%. This cut will make memberships and services cheaper, encouraging more young people and urban professionals to stay fit and follow preventive healthcare practices.
Bicycles and their parts will now attract only 5% GST, down from 12%. This step promotes eco-friendly transport for students, young professionals, and fitness enthusiasts. It also supports sustainable mobility and affordable commuting.
Sports goods and toys will become less expensive with GST reduced from 12% to 5%. This will make equipment more affordable for aspiring athletes and children, boosting participation in both indoor and outdoor sports.
Two-wheelers up to 350cc, including commuter bikes, will now attract 18% GST instead of 28%. This change benefits students, gig workers, and young professionals, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, by lowering vehicle purchase costs.
Small cars will also become cheaper as GST has been reduced from 28% to 18%. This will help first-time buyers and young families gain affordable personal mobility.
These GST reforms align with the government’s vision of a fitter, mobile, and empowered young India. They aim to expand opportunities, improve ease of living, and support inclusive growth nationwide.
