The Union Ministry of Textiles is set to host the Handloom Conclave ‘Manthan’ at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on 28 January 2025. The conclave aims to align with the government’s 5F vision—Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign—and position the handloom sector as a growth engine for India’s development by 2047. Participants will include panelists from the handloom value chain, such as government officials, start-up founders, retailers, and sustainable brands.
Technical Sessions and Discussions
The event will feature three technical sessions:
- Support for Start-ups in the Handloom Sector: Highlighting initiatives to foster start-ups and create a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem.
- Handloom Marketing Strategies: Sharing best practices and innovative approaches to expand marketing avenues.
- Attracting Young Weavers: Exploring strategies to engage the youth and enhance the sector’s value proposition through technology and digital platforms.
These discussions will provide insights from experts across academia, handloom co-operatives, producer companies, and e-commerce platforms, fostering collaboration and innovation in the sector.
Empowering Handloom for the Future
The conclave underscores the government’s commitment to supporting weavers and strengthening the handloom industry. By promoting sustainable practices, encouraging innovation, and improving livelihoods, the initiative aims to position the handloom sector as a key contributor to India’s economic and cultural landscape.
The event is expected to shape a future roadmap for the industry, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable ecosystem for handloom production and marketing.
