Usually, I don’t feel like writing about a movie trailer. Most such ‘reviews’ feel like marketing gimmicks dressed as opinions.
But after watching Aamir Khan Productions’ Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos announcement, I can’t help myself. This isn’t a teaser, and it isn’t exactly a trailer! It’s Aamir Khan’s (with Vir’s) mind at its quirkiest and most brilliant.
In under four minutes, Aamir and Vir Das take us through a rollercoaster that’s part comedy, part chaos, and entirely hilarious. The setup is simple: Aamir is furious with Vir for making a ‘bad movie.’ The conversation kicks off:
Aamir: “Kya banaya tune?”
Vir: “Film.”
Aamir: “Tune bola tha action film hai, spy hai…”
What follows is a hilarious barrage of questions about heroism, romance, item numbers, and everything else a “Bollywood” or “spy-action-romance” film could possibly need. Aamir dominates the discussion, even delivering the savage verdict: “You better do stand-up comedy, not films.”
The backdrop is a test screening. Viewers are inside the theatre, while Aamir and Vir seem to be waiting for the screening to end and for the verdict with bated breath. Aamir warns, “Flop movie hai, log gaali denge jaise hi ye darwaza khulega.” But Vir cheekily fires back: “Flop sab ki hoti hai, aapki Laal Singh Chaddha bhi…”
Cue Aamir going full-on ‘action’ mode on Vir… just as the screening doors open. And the audience? They come out clapping and cheering. A flop? Not here. The movie rocks.
And the cherry on top? Aamir starts taking credit for Vir’s hard work! It’s pure, meta comedy gold—a movie announcement that’s actually entertaining on its own!
This is marketing done differently, with genuine out-of-the-box thinking. Just one line from its song, “Aaj banda tere liye naachega,” is enough to leave an impression of its musical charm.
Releasing on 16 January 2026, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos marks Vir Das’s directorial debut, co-directed by Kavi Shahstri, starring Vir, Ellie Flory Fawcett, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan, Mona Singh, Preity Zinta, with Aamir Khan in a special appearance.
From this quirky, brilliantly chaotic announcement, it’s clear: Aamir and Vir have something fun and clever up their sleeves. Audiences, get ready to laugh, cheer, and maybe even dance a little.
