India is taking a significant step towards becoming a global hub for artificial intelligence with a landmark $15 billion investment announced by Adani Enterprises and Google. The partnership aims to build India’s largest AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, spanning multiple years from 2026 to 2030.
The project, a joint effort through AdaniConneX, will integrate advanced AI computing infrastructure, a robust subsea cable network, and clean energy solutions. This initiative is expected to substantially increase India’s computing capacity, enabling the country to handle the most demanding AI workloads while positioning Visakhapatnam as a major technology hub.
Sustainability is a core focus of the project. The partnership includes investments in clean energy generation, new transmission lines, and innovative energy storage systems. These measures are designed not only to power the AI hub efficiently but also to strengthen the resilience of India’s electricity grid, reflecting a commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure development.
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, described the partnership as more than just an infrastructure investment. He said it represents an investment in “the soul of a rising nation” and highlights a shared vision of empowering Indians with cutting-edge technology. He emphasized that Visakhapatnam will emerge as a global destination for innovation, with the AI hub serving as a catalyst for regional economic growth.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian also highlighted the strategic importance of the AI hub. According to him, it will provide a critical foundation for businesses, researchers, and creators in India to innovate and scale using AI. The collaboration will bring Google’s resources closer to local communities, ensuring performance, security, and scalability for AI applications across sectors.
The economic impact of this project is expected to be significant. Beyond creating tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs in technology, construction, and clean energy, the data centre is likely to spur digital inclusivity and growth across India. Experts believe this partnership will enhance India’s global competitiveness in AI and accelerate research, innovation, and business adoption in the sector.
As India continues to expand its AI capabilities, the Adani-Google investment marks a defining moment in the country’s technological journey. By combining world-class infrastructure, clean energy, and a strategic focus on innovation, the project is set to position India at the forefront of the AI revolution, fostering long-term economic and technological growth.
