Reliance Strategic Business Ventures Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has acquired 50.1 percent ownership in Sikhya Entertainment, marking a significant step in strengthening Reliance’s presence in the media and entertainment sector.
The partnership brings together Jio Studios’ large-scale distribution network and production capabilities with Sikhya Entertainment’s reputation for creating culturally rooted stories that resonate internationally. At a time when Indian content is gaining strong global traction, the collaboration aims to develop films and series for audiences in India and overseas markets.
Over the past few years, Jio Studios has emerged as a major force in the Indian entertainment ecosystem. The studio has backed several commercially successful and critically acclaimed projects including Dhurandhar, Laapataa Ladies and the Stree franchise. With this new alliance, Jio Studios plans to further strengthen its content pipeline while expanding its global footprint.
Founded by Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain, Sikhya Entertainment has built a strong reputation for meaningful and performance-driven storytelling. The production house is the only Indian banner to have won multiple Academy Awards, including wins for Period. End of Sentence. and The Elephant Whisperers in the documentary short film categories. Sikhya has also received several National Film Awards for films such as Masaan, Soorarai Pottru and Kathal.
Sikhya Entertainment is known for supporting emerging filmmakers and nurturing creative talent across languages and genres. Its diverse film slate includes popular and critically recognised titles such as The Lunchbox, Masaan, Pagglait, Kathal and Kill, helping redefine independent cinema in India.
Jyoti Deshpande, President of Jio Studios, said the partnership reflects the studio’s long-term commitment to working with creators who combine creative excellence with cultural authenticity. She stated that Sikhya’s storytelling approach aligns closely with Jio Studios’ vision of taking Indian stories to global audiences. She also highlighted the company’s ambition to build world-class entertainment that connects with viewers across borders.
Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain described the partnership as a major milestone in Sikhya Entertainment’s journey. They said the collaboration will help scale Indian stories globally while continuing to support new voices and creative risk-taking. The founders added that working with Jio Studios will allow Sikhya to expand its reach without compromising on storytelling values.
Industry observers view the deal as part of a larger trend where Indian studios are forming strategic alliances to compete on the international stage. As streaming platforms and global audiences show growing interest in Indian content, such partnerships are expected to play a key role in shaping the future of South Asian cinema.
With this move, Jio Studios and Sikhya Entertainment aim to create a stronger platform for Indian stories, blending scale, creativity and global ambition to reach wider audiences than ever before.
