Thane witnessed a vibrant and inspiring press conference of Krida Maha Sangram Season 2 today at Satkar Hotel, where Member of Parliament Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and cricket legend Harbhajan Singh graced the occasion. Their presence added both political and sporting weight to the event, drawing attention from sports enthusiasts, media and young aspirants alike.
The press meet began with the felicitation of several players who had shown remarkable performances in different sporting categories. Organisers proudly announced that the Krida Maha Sangram has already attracted participation from more than 30,000 people, reflecting the growing popularity of the initiative. With the aim of creating a deeper sporting culture, the organisers now plan to scale up the event, targeting over 100,000 participants, particularly children and youth, in the near future.
In his address, Shrikant Shinde highlighted the government’s and organisers’ commitment to grassroots sports development. He emphasised that real progress in sports begins at the local level, where raw talent is nurtured and guided. Shinde underlined ongoing initiatives designed to provide young athletes with structured platforms, better infrastructure and mentorship opportunities. Significantly, he also announced that scholarships would be awarded to deserving students and athletes, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their sporting journey.
Harbhajan Singh, the star attraction of the evening, delivered an inspiring speech that resonated with the audience. He spoke not only about the importance of dedication and discipline in sports but also about the growing influence of social media on today’s generation. Singh expressed concern that children are drifting away from traditional, ground-level sports due to digital distractions. He urged parents and educators to encourage youngsters to actively engage in physical games, reminding everyone that sports build character, resilience and team spirit in a way no virtual platform can.
The event concluded on a powerful note, reiterating the central vision of Krida Maha Sangram to make sports accessible, inclusive and impactful across Maharashtra. With the combination of large-scale participation, grassroots development programmes and scholarship support, the initiative aims to nurture a new generation of athletes who can proudly represent the state and the nation.
