Kuberaa arrives with high expectations, boasting a stellar cast including Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, this film explores familiar cinematic territory — a destitute man’s descent into the world of the ultra-rich. But does it offer anything new?
The story centres on Deepak (Nagarjuna), a CBI officer-turned-corporate fixer, and Deva (Dhanush), a kind-hearted beggar unknowingly pulled into a deadly mission. Deva realises he’s being used and escapes, triggering a tense chase. Rashmika plays Sameera, a quirky commoner who helps Deva, while Jim Sarbh’s Neeraj and Dalip Tahil play cold-blooded powerbrokers.
The film tries to humanise its characters and set a strong emotional core, especially with Dhanush’s subtle performance. However, the screenplay stretches thin. The first half takes too long to find rhythm, and repetitive scenes sap momentum. Despite moments of emotional intensity and a few gripping sequences, the excessive runtime drags the film down.
Kuberaa shines in flashes — through performances and intention — but falters due to pacing. A tighter edit might have salvaged it. Sadly, this thriller loses steam before the climax even arrives.
