Topping the list is Visakhapatnam, followed by Ranchi, Vijayawada, Nashik, and Raipur, reflecting a sharp pivot toward tier-2 and tier-3 career hubs.
This is the first-ever Cities on the Rise report by LinkedIn, based entirely on platform data that tracks job creation, hiring trends, and talent inflow. It comes at a time when four out of five Indian professionals are actively looking for new jobs. The list helps spotlight destinations where the job market is not just growing, it’s thriving.
Local Cities, Global Moves
The ranking shows that India’s smaller cities are no longer just affordable hometowns, they’re becoming serious centres of professional growth. As per LinkedIn India Senior Managing Editor Nirajita Banerjee, the boom is driven by MSMEs, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), and the Viksit Bharat vision, all converging to unlock opportunity in regional India.
These cities are experiencing real-time transformations. From new business parks to improved urban infrastructure, they are gaining the kind of traction that once belonged only to metro cities like Bengaluru or Mumbai.
Tech, Pharma, Finance Lead the Shift
The top five cities are seeing investments from sectors like technology, pharma, and financial services. For instance:
- Miracle Software Systems in Visakhapatnam
- HCLTech and Infosys in Vijayawada
- Datamatics in Nashik
- Dr. Reddy’s Labs and Sun Pharma in Vishakhapatnam and Vadodara
- HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank in Raipur, Agra, and Jodhpur
These firms are not just expanding, they’re bringing jobs to local talent, helping professionals build careers without needing to relocate to bigger metros.
What Jobs Are Trending?
The report reveals two big functional trends:
- Business Development roles are surging in 6 out of 10 cities, including Nashik, Raipur, Rajkot, Agra, Vadodara, and Jodhpur.
- Engineering roles dominate in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Madurai.
Other high-opportunity areas include Sales, Operations, and Education. The data reflects a diverse set of roles that suit both fresh graduates and experienced professionals looking to make strategic career moves.

Local governments are doing their part too. Infrastructure development is helping these cities take off. In Ranchi, smart city projects are making it an attractive choice for Jharkhand’s youth. Rajkot’s road network upgrades are creating smoother logistics and better business flow.
