What happens when a timeless spiritual epic meets the power of music? Playback singer Madhushree and music composer Robby Badal are attempting to answer that question with a 52-hour musical presentation of Goswami Tulsidas’ Shri Ramcharitmanas.
The teaser of this ambitious devotional project was launched in Mumbai under the banner of Royant Music. The presentation brings together Madhushree’s voice and Robby Badal’s compositions in an effort to introduce the revered literary work to listeners through a musical experience.
The two artists have reportedly spent nearly two years working on the project, making it a significant undertaking in their musical journeys. <Cite refs={[“turn839618news19″,”turn839618search1”]}/>
A musical journey rooted in devotion
For Madhushree, the project has been more than a singing assignment. The playback singer said she approached the work with devotion rather than expectations of commercial success or popularity.
One of her biggest challenges was singing the entire work in Awadhi, the language in which Tulsidas composed the Ramcharitmanas. Madhushree, who is Bengali, described the experience as emotionally demanding and spiritually meaningful.
She shared that the story moved her deeply during recording, sometimes bringing tears to her eyes. She also explained that she did not see the project as merely another performance, describing her involvement as a form of spiritual practice.
Her experience highlights how music can offer artists a different relationship with their work, moving beyond entertainment to personal reflection and devotion.
Robby Badal’s role in the ambitious project
Composer Robby Badal has shaped the musical presentation, a task he acknowledged was not easy. He credited Madhushree’s voice as essential to bringing the project together.
For Badal, composing music for the Ramcharitmanas is also a personal milestone. Coming from a small village, he described the opportunity to work on such a revered literary creation as a significant achievement.
The project aims to bring the text to listeners through music while retaining its devotional character. Its scale also makes it a distinctive undertaking, with the proposed presentation spanning 52 hours.
Industry and spiritual figures extend support
The teaser launch brought together people from the film, music and spiritual communities. Those present included spiritual guru Oma The Akk, filmmaker Karan Razdan, actor Gagan Malik, Vastu expert Dr Khoja and actress Kampal Patel, among others.
Oma The Akk praised Madhushree’s dedication, noting the time she had devoted to the project. He also expressed hope that the presentation would help connect younger audiences with India’s cultural traditions.
Karan Razdan, director of the film Hindutva, congratulated Madhushree and Badal, saying he had heard about the project during its development over the past two years.
Video messages from singer Anup Jalota, singer Kailash Kher, Kumar Sanu and actress Mandakini also conveyed their best wishes. Anup Jalota praised Madhushree’s work.
Keeping a timeless story relevant
The Ramcharitmanas has remained an important part of India’s literary and devotional heritage for generations. Presenting it through an extended musical format offers another way for audiences to engage with its story.
Whether listeners approach the project for its music, spiritual significance or literary roots, the initiative brings attention to the effort involved in adapting a major work for a different medium.
For Madhushree and Robby Badal, the project represents two years of dedication. For audiences, it offers an opportunity to experience a familiar spiritual epic through an ambitious new musical interpretation.
