Maharashtra has announced the largest-ever state-level relief package of ₹31,628 crore to support farmers affected by the recent severe floods and heavy rainfall. This historic package aims to help over 60 lakh farmers across the state who faced extensive damage to crops, farmland, and agricultural infrastructure. The relief measures include direct cash assistance, employment aid under NREGA, and funds for rebuilding rural roads, wells, and irrigation systems, reflecting a comprehensive approach to recovery.
State officials emphasized that this package is designed to not only address immediate losses but also restore long-term agricultural productivity. The government plans to distribute ₹47,000 per hectare to farmers and provide additional support for infrastructure repair and rural development. Special provisions have also been made for the fishing community and students in affected areas, including fee waivers and financial aid.
While the announcement has been welcomed by many farmers and agricultural stakeholders, opposition parties have called for higher compensation and full loan waivers, arguing that more support is needed to fully recover from the devastating floods. Despite these debates, Maharashtra’s unprecedented relief effort stands out as a significant step toward stabilizing the agricultural sector and helping farmers regain their livelihoods
