In a historic push for inclusive urban development, the Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a bold new housing policy titled ‘Majhe Ghar – Majhe Adhikar’ (My Home – My Rights). Backed by an investment outlay of ₹70,000 crore, the policy promises to build 35 lakh homes over the next five years, marking one of the most ambitious housing initiatives in the state’s history.
Led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the policy focuses on slum rehabilitation, redevelopment, and housing for marginalised groups, including working women, labourers, and senior citizens. The move aims to bridge the growing housing deficit while promoting sustainable urban planning and liveable cities.
Real estate industry welcomes the move

Prashant Sharma, President of NAREDCO Maharashtra, called it a game-changer, adding,
“With a clear target of 3.5 million homes and a ₹70,000 crore plan, the government is showing serious commitment to Housing for All. The creation of a MahaAwas Fund and focus on slum redevelopment will help meet both housing and employment goals.”
