Ever wondered what you’d look like as a superhero, a warrior princess, or even a film noir detective? Meta’s newly launched Imagine Me feature can do just that, turn your imagination into images, with you as the star.
Now officially rolled out in India, the AI-powered tool is available through WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. It gives everyday users a chance to create generative AI portraits of themselves, simply by uploading a few photos and typing in a prompt. The result? A highly personalised visual created by Meta AI.
What Exactly Is Imagine Me?
Imagine Me is Meta’s latest move in generative AI, and it goes beyond generic filters or avatars. Instead, it uses your actual likeness to generate images that place you in custom scenes and styles. All it takes is uploading a few photos of yourself once, and then the fun begins.
Just type a prompt like:
- “Imagine me as a superhero in Mumbai”
- “Imagine me in a Van Gogh painting”
And Meta AI responds with a set of unique images featuring your face, transformed into the described setting or style.
The feature lives inside chats with Meta AI across its platforms. For example, on Instagram or WhatsApp, you simply type the prompt into a Meta AI conversation, and the tool uses your stored references to generate a response.
Easy to Use, Even Easier to Delete
Meta has added built-in privacy controls to ease concerns. Users must manually upload their reference photos to activate the feature, and they can delete both the original uploads and the generated images at any time through Meta AI’s settings.
Until users opt in and upload their images, the Imagine Me feature won’t work. Meta says this opt-in design gives people full control over their likeness and data.
Why It’s Different
The launch of Imagine Me marks a shift from casual AI experiments to hyper-personalised creativity. While AI art tools have been trending for some time, this is one of the first fully integrated experiences across social platforms that puts you at the centre of the image.
Instead of creating random faces or generic avatars, the AI is now trained on your appearance, making the results feel more relevant and realistic.
Made for India’s Billions
India, with its massive and digitally active population, was an obvious next step for this feature. Social media culture in the country is vibrant, and tools like Imagine Me are likely to catch on quickly among creators, influencers, and even casual users.
The feature is available in English for now, and may expand to more languages and formats later. It has already launched in countries like the US, and India joins the rollout as a key market.
What Comes Next?
While the feature currently focuses on individual image creation, Meta’s roadmap for generative AI includes group avatars, interactive storytelling, and even video. Imagine Me could evolve into a creative playground for users who want more than just filters and static selfies.
One thing’s for sure, your selfies may never be the same again.
