Actor Mishkat Verma is stepping into unfamiliar territory with Tu Ya Koi Nahin, the latest offering from Ishika Shahi and Rajan Shahi’s Director’s Kut Productions. The show, which streams on the production house’s YouTube channel, sees Mishkat taking on a challenging double role, something he describes as a rare opportunity that immediately caught his attention.
Interestingly, Mishkat was not entirely convinced he was the right choice when the project first came his way. Recalling his initial reaction, he revealed that he even asked for an audition before agreeing to the role.
“When Ishika and Rajan sir approached me with the story, I honestly wondered whether I was the right fit, especially for Ansh. It was completely different from anything I had done before. I even requested an audition. However, they were extremely confident about casting me, and eventually saying yes became an easy decision,” he shared.
For the actor, the biggest attraction was the chance to portray two completely different characters within the same story.
“Getting an opportunity to play a double role is rare. Every actor wants to experience that challenge at least once. Ansh is passionate, fearless and fiercely loyal, while Yash is innocent, funny and equally loyal in his own way. Both characters are very distinct, and that made the process exciting,” Mishkat explained.
Beyond the dual characters, Mishkat believes the heart of Tu Ya Koi Nahin lies in its emotional depth. According to him, the story is ultimately about unconditional love and the lengths people are willing to go for someone they truly care about.
“For me, the central theme of the show is unconditional love. It is about putting someone else’s happiness above your own and standing by them regardless of the circumstances. That emotional journey drives the narrative,” he said.
The actor also found the digital format refreshing compared to traditional television. He noted that the creative environment on the project allowed performers greater freedom to experiment with their characters.
“The experience was very different from television. There was no pressure of daily telecasts, and we had the time to explore scenes properly. We could take creative risks and build our characters more naturally. Everything was approached with a lot of care and attention to detail,” he said.
Freedom, however, also came with challenges. Mishkat admitted that several scenes pushed him outside his comfort zone. One emotionally intense sequence involving Yash proved particularly demanding and tested his abilities as a performer.
“There is one scene in particular that really pushed me to my limits emotionally. I am grateful to director Rishi Sir, who remained patient throughout and encouraged me to keep digging deeper until we achieved exactly what the scene required,” he shared.
Talking about his chemistry with co-star Priyanshi, Mishkat credited both the writing and their collaborative approach on set.
“I believe chemistry begins with strong writing. Fortunately, this show is very well written. Priyanshi and I had a great working relationship. We were always open to each other’s ideas, which made the entire process smooth and enjoyable,” he said.
He also had high praise for creator Ishika Shahi, whose dedication left a strong impression on him.
“The passion she brought to the project was remarkable. Her energy, commitment and involvement in every aspect of the production will definitely be visible on screen,” he said.
For viewers still undecided about watching the series, Mishkat has a simple message: “Watch it with an open mind and be ready for surprises. It is not a typical love story, and that is what makes it special.”
