Commuters on Mumbai Metro’s Line 3 (the “Aqua Line”) can now book tickets via WhatsApp, as the metro operator unveils a conversational QR-ticketing system accessible through messaging.
Under the new system, passengers can instantly generate QR tickets by sending “Hi” to +91 98730 16836 or by scanning the QR codes displayed at metro stations. The service allows commuters to create up to six QR tickets in a single transaction, supports multiple payment options, and eliminates the need for paper tickets, promoting sustainable travel. Payments via UPI will have no additional charges, while minimal fees apply for card transactions.
This innovation aligns with the metro’s push for seamless, efficient, and eco-friendly commuting. A senior official indicated that the move is part of broader efforts to integrate digital convenience into Mumbai’s public transport ecosystem. The WhatsApp ticketing model has already been used in other metro corridors, and the new system does not require users to install any special app—it functions entirely within WhatsApp.
The metro’s operator has underscored that this step is intended to reduce friction for commuters, modernize ticketing, and promote contactless, paperless travel.
