Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium has replaced Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium as a venue for the Women’s ODI World Cup, starting September 30. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the revised schedule at 06:06 PM IST today, Friday, August 22, 2025, for the eight-team tournament. The switch was triggered by Bengaluru’s inability to secure police clearances after a deadly stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL celebrations on June 4, which killed 11 and injured many.
Guwahati will host the opener between India and New Zealand on September 30. Navi Mumbai will host key matches, including India vs England (October 26) and the second semi-final (November 2), plus potentially the final (November 2) if Pakistan don’t qualify. Other venues include Indore, Visakhapatnam, Colombo, and Guwahati, with several fixture shifts noted in the schedule.
Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium faced issues after the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) clashed with police over safety concerns following the stampede. Non-compliance with fire-safety rules led to power cuts. A state inquiry deemed the stadium unsafe, forcing the KSCA to move the Maharaja T20 to Mysuru, with closed-door hosting also rejected.
Thiruvananthapuram was considered as a replacement, but limited flight connections ruled it out. The ICC had initially listed Bengaluru among five venues, set to host the opener and final. Now, Navi Mumbai joins the lineup.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised Navi Mumbai’s support for women’s cricket. “Navi Mumbai has become a vibrant hub, with strong fan backing,” Shah said. He expects the World Cup, returning to India after 12 years, to inspire fans globally.
The tournament runs from September 30 to November 2, 2025, with the final in Colombo or Navi Mumbai based on Pakistan’s progress.
