NH Studioz, one of India’s leading film rights custodians, has acquired complete negative and copyright ownership of 1,677 Tamil feature films from Columbia Video Films, Malaysia’s renowned distributor of Tamil cinema. This acquisition significantly strengthens NH Studioz’s presence in South Indian and international content markets.
The catalogue covers Tamil cinema’s golden eras, featuring iconic stars like M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), Sivaji Ganesan, Jayalalithaa, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar, and Vijay. These films continue to influence generations and form a vital part of Tamil cultural heritage.
Shreyans Hirawat, Director of NH Studioz, said, “This acquisition is both a business and cultural milestone. Tamil cinema enjoys a massive global following. Through this library, we aim to restore, preserve, and distribute these classics across OTT platforms, television, and international networks, ensuring their legacy endures for generations.”
With this deal, NH Studioz’s Tamil catalogue now totals 2,100 titles, making it the world’s largest collection of Tamil films. The company plans to integrate the films into its digital portfolio, making them available across OTT, FAST channels, television, and global syndication networks.
The acquisition also targets regional markets with high demand for South Indian content, including Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the global Tamil diaspora. Nostalgia-driven viewing trends are fueling renewed interest in classic cinema, and NH Studioz intends to collaborate with Free TV networks, digital platforms, and regional broadcasters to make these films accessible to both long-time fans and new audiences.
NH Studioz will showcase its expanded Tamil catalogue at the Asia TV Forum (ATF) 2025 in Singapore, inviting broadcasters, OTT platforms, and content buyers to explore licensing and distribution opportunities. This move further establishes NH Studioz as a global leader in multilingual content ownership and monetisation.
