A fresh low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 27, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Odisha Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of the state from October 27 to 29. Residents are being advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the storm approaches.
The cyclonic system is likely to bring widespread rain and strong winds to coastal and inland areas. In Bhubaneswar, the capital city, the weather is expected to be cloudy and humid, with occasional rain showers. On October 27, light rain is expected in the morning, followed by cloudy conditions for the rest of the day, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 31°C. On October 28, scattered showers are likely in the afternoon, while October 29 is predicted to be humid with continued rainfall.
The state government has taken precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as strong winds and rough seas are expected along the coastal regions. Farmers have also been urged to protect their crops from potential damage due to heavy rainfall. Authorities are closely monitoring low-lying areas and flood-prone regions to prevent accidents and minimize damage.
Public awareness campaigns are being conducted to inform communities about safety measures during the cyclone. Citizens are encouraged to follow official warnings, keep emergency supplies ready, and avoid traveling to vulnerable areas during heavy rainfall. The government has assured residents that disaster management teams are on standby and prepared to act immediately if the situation worsens.
The Revenue and Disaster Management Minister of Odisha, Suresh Pujari, stated that the state government is closely monitoring the weather system. He reminded the public that October is typically a cyclone-prone month in Odisha and emphasized that while the situation is being carefully observed, there is no need for panic. Authorities are working to ensure that essential services remain functional and that citizens remain safe.
Meteorologists have warned that cyclonic storms in the Bay of Bengal can develop rapidly and cause heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flooding. Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels, including the IMD and local news outlets. By taking timely precautions, communities can reduce the risk to life and property.
As the storm moves closer to the coast, Odisha residents are urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow all safety instructions issued by authorities. The combined efforts of the government, emergency response teams, and citizens are expected to minimize the impact of the approaching cyclone. Preparedness and caution remain the best strategies to face this natural event safely.
