The historic landmark Bhidewada in Maharashtra, renowned as the site where Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule established the country’s first girls’ school, is set to inspire audiences on the Marathi silver screen. The forthcoming film ‘Bhidewada’ captures the legacy of these social reformers and the enduring journey of women’s education, connecting the struggles of the past with contemporary social challenges.
Produced by Shivmudra Studios and presented by Ragho Films, the film is directed by Shivani Rajeshirke and Ajit Shirole, with production led by Jayashree Shirole and Kaveri Javale. The co-producers include Supriya Shinde, Vaibhav Joshi, and Raju Witkar, reflecting a collaborative effort to bring this historically significant story to life.
At the heart of the film, actress Prajakta Gaikwad steps into the role of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, portraying the revolutionary educator whose determination laid the foundation for girls’ education in India. Dhiresh Joshi takes on the role of Jyotirao Phule, complementing Gaikwad’s performance in depicting the duo’s relentless fight against social inequality. The ensemble cast also features Madhav Abhyankar, Vaibhav Chavan, Rituraj Wankhede, Neha Sonawane, Samrat Shirole, Shara Gaikwad, and others, bringing depth and authenticity to the narrative.
The film’s story is penned by Ajit Shirole, with the screenplay co-written by Shirole and Akshay Katti, who also crafted the dialogues. Music by Sagar Shinde, lyrics by Ishwar Andhare, cinematography by Yogesh Koli, and editing by Rajesh Barbole together create a cinematic experience that balances historical authenticity with emotive storytelling. The art direction of Mahesh Gore and sound design by Ashok Jhurunge enhance the period setting, while executive producer Amit Majhire oversees the project’s vision.
