On 26 November 2025, India celebrated Constitution Day, remembering the adoption of the Constitution the document that laid the foundation of India’s democratic system. In a public letter on this day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted how constitutional values and citizens’ duties are essential for achieving the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India). He explained that while the Constitution guarantees rights to all citizens, it also asks them to fulfil duties. By performing these duties, citizens contribute to a strong democracy and the nation’s progress.
The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of responsible voting as a key duty. He urged every eligible citizen to exercise their right to vote, noting that participation in elections is not just a right but also a responsibility toward the country. Schools and colleges were encouraged to celebrate Constitution Day by educating first-time voters, making young adults aware of their civic responsibilities and the role they play in shaping the nation. By linking civic duties with national development, the letter conveyed that even small actions by citizens help move India closer to the ‘Viksit Bharat’ dream.
PM Modi also reflected on his personal journey, stating that the opportunities provided by the Constitution allowed him, coming from a humble background, to dream, work hard, and eventually serve the nation. He highlighted that the principles of equality, liberty, and human dignity embedded in the Constitution empower individuals and collectively strengthen the country. By reminding citizens that rights are meaningful only when matched with responsibilities, the letter aimed to foster a culture of active citizenship and respect for constitutional ideals.
The Prime Minister’s message on Constitution Day reinforced that building a strong, just, and developed India requires active participation from every citizen. By upholding the Constitution, performing civic duties, voting responsibly, and respecting institutions, Indians can collectively contribute to achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat.’
