In today’s digital age, students are increasingly creating videos for social media, with many aspiring to build careers in this field. To nurture their talent and raise awareness about social issues, SFS EduExpo and Nem Arts are organising a short film competition for students in Rajkot.
Manish Parekh, founder of Nem Arts, shared details about the event: “The idea for this competition came from SFS’s D. V. Mehta, who wanted to make students more aware of their social responsibilities. The themes include addiction prevention, loneliness, environmental conservation, traffic awareness, and cleanliness. With support from experts, we are organising this event to promote creativity and social consciousness among students.”
Competition details: Students aged 10 and above can participate individually or as part of an institution. The competition offers ₹80,000 in cash prizes across nine categories. Awards include ₹15,000 each for best director, best story, and best editing, ₹10,000 for best film/production, and ₹5,000 each for best cinematography, actor, actress, music, and sound design. Every participant will receive a certificate, while winners will also get trophies.
The judging panel includes renowned personalities from Gujarati cinema and media, such as:
- Haritrushi Purohit: An internationally acclaimed film director known for hits like Aapne to Dhirubhai, Let Them Play, and Ek Varta.
- Sanjay Vinaychandra Shah: A prolific playwright of more than 35 Hindi and Gujarati plays and TV serials, and columnist for Gujarat Samachar’s Online Zindabad, and editor of Yatrabhoomi, Janmabhoomi newspaper’s travel supplement
- Mihir Fichadiya: A cinematographer who worked on films like Saiyar Mori Re, Samandar, and Colors of Love.
- Drashti Pandya: A celebrated television actress known for her roles in Mere Sai (Sony TV), Savaaj (Colors Gujarati), and Rashi Rikshawwali
How to Participate: The competition begins on January 28, and students can submit films between 2 to 5 minutes long in Gujarati, Hindi, or English. Submissions must be made via YouTube or Google Drive links by February 1. Selected films will be screened, and winners announced during a public event on February 5.
