Sippy Films, one of Indian cinema’s most iconic studios and the creative force behind timeless classics such as Sholay, is entering a new chapter marked by structured reinvention and long-term vision. Under the stewardship of Shehzad Sippy, the studio is repositioning itself as a character IP-led content company, backed by a strategic investment from Kuberans Tech Ventures Private Limited. The financial terms of the investment have not been disclosed.
For decades, Sippy Films has occupied a rare and influential place in India’s cultural landscape. Its films, including Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, and Shaan, continue to resonate with audiences across generations, languages, and platforms. Rather than resting on this legacy, the studio is now seeking to expand and reimagine its intellectual properties in a way that aligns with the rapidly evolving entertainment ecosystem.
The ongoing restructuring aims to transform Sippy Films into a modern studio focused on building and nurturing character-driven intellectual property. This approach places emphasis on long-term value creation, where characters and story worlds can evolve across films, animation, and potentially other formats, while retaining their original spirit.
Shehzad Sippy said the investment allows the studio to think beyond short-term production cycles. He noted that the focus is on developing both select legacy properties and new original IPs in film and animation. According to him, the objective is to build a sustainable studio model where stories and characters can grow organically and remain relevant for future generations.
The investment comes from Kuberans Tech Ventures, a sector-agnostic firm with interests spanning media, technology, and education. The firm is co-founded by Jeet Wagh, who brings a media-driven understanding of intellectual property and its long-term potential. Kuberans is also known as the founding force behind Ideabaaz, a national entrepreneurship platform backed by Z Network, which operates at the intersection of content, capital, and startup ecosystems.
Jeet Wagh said legacy IPs gain greater strength when approached with clarity, structure, and respect for their cultural value. He added that building new intellectual property alongside established titles creates a balanced and future-ready creative pipeline. With entertainment consumption spreading across multiple platforms and formats, he believes this is the right moment to invest with patience and long-term conviction.
As the Indian entertainment industry continues to evolve, Sippy Films’ renewed focus on character-led storytelling reflects a broader shift toward building enduring creative assets. By combining heritage with thoughtful innovation, the studio is positioning itself to remain culturally relevant while embracing the future of storytelling.
