Former Bollywood actor Somy Ali, who now resides in the US and runs her NGO No More Tears, has strongly condemned the circulation of false news claiming veteran actor Dharmendra had passed away. The two had earlier worked together in Mafia, and Dharmendra had even offered her a role in Barsaat alongside his son Bobby Deol.
Recently, when fake reports of Dharmendra’s demise spread across social media, Somy was left heartbroken and furious. Taking to Instagram, she called it “a disgusting act that violates every journalistic ethic.”
In a heartfelt video message, Somy said,
“I wanted to address something very important that has been disturbing me and Dharamji’s fans. The individual who fabricated the news of Dharamji’s death should be ashamed. I have three degrees in broadcast journalism, and I am appalled that media would stoop this low for attention. It breaks every code of journalism.”
She further shared how the incident left her emotionally devastated.
“For the past two days, I have cried and been depressed. My mother and several friends in the Southeast Asian community were also heartbroken because we believed what the media told us. Even people in India didn’t know the truth, and I blame the media for it.”
Somy Ali expressed her disbelief at the insensitivity behind spreading such rumors.
“You lied and fabricated the death of a legendary actor who treated me like a daughter. I spent countless hours with Dharamji—chatting, having lunch, and learning from him. To create false news while he’s still recovering in the hospital is beyond cruel.”
She concluded her message with a strong rebuke:
“This is why it’s said there are no devils in hell—because they’re all here on earth. Whoever you are, you’re the devil for spreading horrifying lies about such a legend.”
Somy emphasized that fake news like this deeply affects those living abroad, who rely on media for updates.
“I have a deep bond with India and Bombay—it will stay with me forever. Dharamji has always been like a father figure to me,” she added.
