T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) Bengaluru, a constituent of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), celebrated its annual Founders’ Day at the Ramdas Pai Auditorium, MAHE Bengaluru Campus, Yelahanka. The event brought together academic leaders, industry professionals, social sector representatives, faculty members, and students to reflect on the institute’s legacy of value-driven management education.
The celebration was held ahead of the 104th birth anniversary of Padma Bhushan Shri T. A. Pai, a visionary institution builder and former Chairman of Syndicate Bank, Food Corporation of India, and Life Insurance Corporation of India. He founded the Manipal Institute of Management in 1980–81, which later became TAPMI, with a strong emphasis on ethics, responsibility, and nation-building through education.
A major highlight of this year’s programme was the launch of the Centre for Social Empowerment (CSE). The new centre aims to strengthen TAPMI Bengaluru’s commitment to socially responsible management education by combining academic knowledge with practical impact. The initiative is designed to prepare future business leaders who can balance profitability with social good.
Speaking on the occasion, senior leaders from MAHE emphasised that the Centre reflects the founder’s vision of management education that goes beyond classrooms. The CSE is expected to act as a bridge between research and real-world action, encouraging students to engage with social challenges and community development.
The Founders’ Day lecture was delivered by Mr Kushal Raj Chakravorty, Founder and Managing Trustee of the Lotus Petal Foundation. He spoke about the role of education in reducing inequality and highlighted the importance of service as a pathway to personal growth and national development. He encouraged students to focus on creating meaningful social impact alongside professional success.
The event was also attended by distinguished alumni and industry leaders, who shared insights on leadership, inclusive growth, and responsible business practices.
The Centre for Social Empowerment will focus on key areas such as employment generation, digital and financial literacy, healthcare access, entrepreneurship, and inclusion of marginalised communities. It plans to work closely with non-profit organisations, corporate partners, and government bodies to implement research-driven and community-focused projects.
TAPMI Bengaluru has also signed collaboration agreements with several organisations to strengthen student engagement, applied research, and community outreach. These partnerships will support hands-on learning opportunities and long-term social initiatives.
With the launch of the Centre and continued emphasis on social internships and research excellence, TAPMI Bengaluru reaffirmed its commitment to developing responsible leaders who can contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth. The institute continues to honour Shri T. A. Pai’s legacy by transforming his vision into action-oriented education.
