Turkish Airlines has expanded its footprint in the United Kingdom by adding London Stansted Airport to its growing flight network, making it the airline’s third gateway in the UK capital after London Heathrow and London Gatwick.
The move marks another important step in the carrier’s strategy to strengthen its position in one of its key international markets. With the launch of services to Stansted, Turkish Airlines now serves six destinations across the United Kingdom, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh. Together with Dublin, the airline’s total weekly frequencies across the United Kingdom and Ireland will rise to 168 during the summer schedule.
The new Stansted service will be operated with 15 weekly flights, offering travellers more flexibility and improved access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive global network through Istanbul. The route is expected to serve both leisure and business demand, while also improving international connectivity for passengers in and around the wider Stansted catchment area.
At the inauguration ceremony held at London Stansted Airport, executives from both Turkish Airlines and the airport welcomed the launch as a significant development for regional and international travel links.
Fuat Fırat, Vice President Sales for Middle and Northern Europe at Turkish Airlines, said the UK remains one of the airline’s most strategic markets. He noted that the addition of London Stansted strengthens the airline’s presence in the capital by introducing a third airport option for passengers. He added that the new route would not only respond to regional demand but also support commercial and tourism activity.
London Stansted Airport Managing Director Gareth Powell described the launch as a major milestone for the airport and a strong endorsement of the region it serves. He said Istanbul is a major destination in its own right, but the new service also gives passengers and businesses in the area easier access to Turkish Airlines’ global network. That network connects travellers to more than 350 destinations across Asia, Africa, Australia and beyond.
With Stansted now added to the map, Turkish Airlines continues to deepen its presence in the UK while enhancing travel options for passengers seeking seamless onward connections through Istanbul. The airline currently flies to 357 destinations in 133 countries across six continents, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most far-reaching carriers.
Established in 1933 with a fleet of just five aircraft, Turkish Airlines has grown into a major global aviation brand. Today, the Star Alliance member operates a fleet of 532 passenger and cargo aircraft, serving 304 international and 53 domestic destinations.
The launch of flights to London Stansted reflects both the airline’s long-term confidence in the UK market and the rising importance of regional airport connectivity. It also gives travellers in north and east London, as well as surrounding regions, another direct link to Istanbul and beyond, opening up wider travel opportunities across Turkish Airlines’ vast international network.
