India and Japan are marking a new chapter in their collaboration on science and technology. Dr. Jitendra Singh, India’s Minister for Science and Technology, recently celebrated National Science Day at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, unveiling plans to dedicate 2025-26 as the India-Japan Year of Science, Technology, and Innovation Exchange. This partnership celebrates 40 years of successful cooperation.
Since 2014, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the two nations have made remarkable strides. Notably, approximately 7,000 Indian students have visited Japan through the Sakura Science Program, gaining exposure to advanced research. With further focus on areas like Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technology, and Space, the upcoming 11th meeting of the Indo-Japan Joint S&T Committee in June 2025 will explore new opportunities.
India’s rapid advancements in fields such as space, AI, and biotechnology were highlighted, including the Chandrayaan-3 mission and recent breakthroughs in nuclear energy. Dr. Singh’s address emphasized continued innovation and strengthening ties between the nations for a sustainable future.
