The Northeast is no longer India’s forgotten corner. In just 10 years, the region has drawn a staggering ₹6.75 lakh crore in investments-transforming into a growth hub with global potential.
At the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025, major players unveiled plans to turn the region into a world-class economy. The summit was held in New Delhi and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

- Airports increased from 9 to 17.
- National highways extended from 10,000 km to 16,000 km.
- Digital India is thriving with thousands of new mobile towers and 13,000 km of optical fibre.

Gateway to ASEAN
Modi called the Northeast a “Gateway to Southeast Asia.”
He highlighted projects like:
- India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway
- Kaladan Multimodal Project connecting Kolkata to Myanmar through Mizoram
- Multimodal logistics parks in Guwahati, Imphal, and Agartala
These will boost India’s trade with ASEAN, expected to exceed $200 billion soon.
Peace, youth & tourism drive growth
Modi emphasised that peace in the Northeast has created new opportunities:
- Over 10,000 militants have surrendered in the past decade.
- Tourism has doubled, with homestays, eco-tourism, and destination weddings booming.
- ₹21,000 crore has been invested in education, setting up AIIMS, IIITs, IIMC, and medical colleges.
- Skill hubs and Khelo India centres are empowering youth.
The PM also promoted the region as a “Heal in India” wellness destination, with its clean air, herbal biodiversity, and organic farming.
Organic revolution & global food dreams
Modi urged investors to back the Northeast’s organic produce:
- It now leads India in growing turmeric, ginger, oranges, pineapples, and tea.
- Demand for organic exports is rising fast.
With a mix of strategic infrastructure, youth power, and peace, the Northeast is now one of India’s biggest economic stories.
It’s no longer a distant frontier- It’s the new front door to India’s future.
