The Karnataka State Allied and Healthcare Council (KSAHC), in collaboration with the Manipal College of Health Professions (MCHP), Manipal, a constituent of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), hosted the final state-level workshop on implementing the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) curriculum on February 12, 2026.
The workshop marks a critical step in preparing allied and healthcare institutions across Karnataka for the transition to a competency-based curriculum, scheduled to be implemented from the Academic Year 2026–2027. This shift aims to ensure that graduates not only have strong theoretical knowledge but also possess measurable professional skills aligned with industry standards.
Dr. H. S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE, in his presidential address, highlighted MCHP’s leadership in allied health education and its role in delivering quality education and clinical training. He reaffirmed MAHE’s focus on academic excellence, regulatory compliance, and capacity building in healthcare education.
Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, VSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor of MAHE, emphasized that the workshop was designed to provide practical guidance on outcome-based teaching, learning, and assessment practices. Sessions guided Heads of Institutions and senior faculty in aligning programme outcomes and course outcomes with the NCAHP framework.
The event was presided over by Dr. B. L. Sujatha Rathod, Director, Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka. Guests of Honour included Prof. U. T. Ifthikar Ali Fareed, Chairman, KSAHC, and Dr. Gangadhar Somayaji, Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya University. MAHE dignitaries present included Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor, Health Sciences; Dr. Srinivas Murthy S. T., Secretary, Medical Education; Dr. P. Giridhar Kini, Registrar; and Dr. G. Arun Maiya, Dean, MCHP, Manipal.
Dr. Sujatha Rathod underscored that the workshop would help institutions adopt global best practices in competency-based education. Technical sessions included curriculum mapping, assessment strategies across domains, and advanced evaluation methods such as OSCE/OSPE and rubrics. Prof. U. T. Ifthikar Ali Fareed reiterated the importance of strict NCAHP curriculum adoption from the 2026–2027 academic year to maintain professional standards.
Dr. G. Arun Maiya highlighted MCHP’s commitment to supporting institutions through this transition. The workshop concluded with a consensus on collaborative implementation, ensuring uniform standards and high-quality training for allied and healthcare professionals across Karnataka.
