National, Nov. 2: The 31st edition of the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) 2026 is all set to return with an exciting selection of 28 award-winning films from 27 European Union Member States and Ukraine. Featuring films in 30 languages, the festival promises Indian audiences a unique opportunity to experience some of Europe’s most celebrated and talked-about cinema.
The festival will begin in Shillong on November 12, followed by New Delhi from November 25 to December 4, before concluding in Pune in December. In Delhi, screenings will be held at six venues, including India Habitat Centre, Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Instituto Cervantes, Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre, India International Centre and Triveni Kala Sangam.
Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to India in collaboration with the Embassies of EU Member States and regional partners, the festival showcases a diverse mix of dramas, documentaries, animated films, sports dramas and historical stories. This year’s line-up explores themes such as identity, resilience, hope, mental health, disability, ageing, power and cultural diversity.
European Union Ambassador to India Jean-Eric Paquet said the festival offers audiences a chance to experience Europe through the vision of its finest filmmakers. He added that cinema continues to serve as a bridge between cultures, encouraging meaningful conversations and strengthening people-to-people connections.
Festival curator Artur Zaborski said this year’s selection reflects the diverse voices of Europe while highlighting stories that resonate across borders. According to him, the films explore family, society, politics, sport and love, allowing audiences to discover both unfamiliar worlds and relatable human experiences.
The festival also reflects the growing diversity of European filmmaking, featuring seven films directed by women and five debut feature films. Alongside award-winning titles, audiences can look forward to films that celebrate different cultures, languages and perspectives from across Europe.
A major highlight this year is the launch of the EUFF Film Project Award 2026, aimed at encouraging emerging Indian filmmakers. The competition invited short films on themes such as identity, migration, climate change, women, queer stories and indigenous communities. Up to 10 shortlisted films will be screened during the Delhi chapter of the festival.
The winning filmmaker will receive the EUFF Film Project Award 2026 along with an opportunity to participate in the 15th edition of Script Fiesta in Warsaw, Poland, scheduled from March 17 to 21, 2027.
With an impressive line-up of international cinema and a platform for emerging Indian talent, EUFF 2026 continues to strengthen cultural ties between Europe and India through the universal language of films.
