Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar recently shared his love for traditional Indian food, especially Gujarati cuisine, during a lively conversation with digital creator and comedian Viraj Gehlani. The candid exchange highlighted how simple, home-style meals often bring more joy than expensive global food trends.
Known for his disciplined lifestyle and preference for healthy eating, Akshay Kumar spoke warmly about the flavours of a traditional Gujarati thali. During the conversation, Viraj Gehlani shared details about the food routine he followed while growing up in a Gujarati household. According to him, meals at home followed a weekly pattern. Monday would be tuar dal, Wednesday moong dal, Friday kadhi and Saturday urad dal. Listening to this, Akshay immediately connected with the simplicity of the cuisine.
Akshay admitted that he genuinely enjoys Gujarati food and finds the Gujarati thali particularly satisfying. He said the comfort and taste of dishes such as undhiyu and tuar dal cannot be matched by fashionable modern ingredients. The actor joked that the joy of eating a traditional Gujarati meal is something that expensive foods like edamame simply cannot replicate.
The conversation turned humorous when Viraj explained how his diet changed after marriage. While he grew up eating traditional food every day, he now finds himself eating avocado and sourdough bread at home. Viraj laughed while describing the contrast between the simple meals he once loved and the modern international dishes that have now become part of his routine.
Akshay responded with amusement, pointing out how people often chase trendy foods even when they do not enjoy them as much as home-cooked meals. Viraj added another funny moment by revealing that he sometimes eats expensive dishes such as truffle mushroom pasta even though he does not particularly like them. He joked that he eats them mainly because they are considered fashionable.
The discussion also touched upon how unfamiliar many people once were with global ingredients. Viraj shared a funny story about how his mother initially thought avocado looked like a kiwi fruit because she had never seen it before. Akshay admitted that he too did not know what avocado was until he later discovered it was a popular fruit worldwide.
Adding to the humour, Viraj joked that marriage even improved his English vocabulary. Akshay laughed and said he could relate, as he too sometimes feels unsure about his English.
The light-hearted exchange ended with more playful stories, including Viraj’s amusing struggle to pronounce the name of an international pasta dish while serving guests. The conversation highlighted a simple truth. No matter how trendy global food becomes, the comfort of traditional Indian meals remains unmatched.
