India’s job market is buzzing with new energy in 2025. Apna’s “India at Work – Q1 2025” report shows a record 1.81 crore job applications, marking a sharp 30% increase compared to last year. This surge highlights India’s growing digital economy and the rapid hiring momentum across industries.
Women’s participation in the workforce has seen an impressive jump. Over 62 lakh applications came from women, reflecting a 23% year-on-year growth. Even more striking, applications from women for enterprise roles soared by 92%. Flexible work options, inclusive hiring practices, and rising opportunities in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities like Chandigarh, Indore, and Jamshedpur played a major role in driving this trend.
Freshers also made a strong impact. They contributed over 66 lakh applications, showing a 46% increase from the previous year. Emerging talent hubs such as Rajkot, Warangal, and Meerut witnessed a notable rise in freshers joining the workforce. Companies are clearly expanding their recruitment beyond traditional metro cities.
On the supply side, job postings grew by 26%, reaching 3.1 lakh new listings. Small and medium businesses (SMBs) took the lead, posting over 2.1 lakh jobs. Among these, 28,547 roles were exclusively created for women. Enterprises like LIC, Paytm, Delhivery, and Flipkart also drove major hiring activities, creating over 1 lakh openings and expanding their search for talent into non-metro regions.
India’s digital transformation is reshaping the job landscape. Apna recorded a 65.4% increase in postings for Software/Web Developer roles, while fresher applications for tech jobs rose by 42.2% compared to last year. This shift highlights the growing demand for specialised skills in AI/ML, cybersecurity, business intelligence, and data-driven operations.
While traditional tech hubs like Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai continue to dominate, new cities are fast catching up. Indore, Jaipur, Lucknow, Rajkot, and Warangal reported 30-50% growth in tech job applications. Better access to engineering talent, improved certification programs, and stronger digital infrastructure are powering this change. Remote-first work models are further helping smaller cities tap into national and global tech opportunities.
Hiring is becoming more decentralised than ever before. Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are not just participating in India’s tech revolution; they are helping lead it. With the country’s digital economy expected to reach $1 trillion by 2030, these cities are shaping the future of innovation and employment.
AI-driven hiring tools are also transforming the recruitment process. By cutting down the time-to-hire and improving candidate matches, platforms like Apna are connecting India’s diverse talent pool with relevant opportunities across 200+ job categories. As a result, finding the right job is faster and smarter than ever before.
