Acharya Satyendra Das, the chief priest of Ayodhya’s Ram Janmabhoomi temple, has died at the age of 83. He passed away at the PGI hospital in Lucknow due to health complications, including a brain haemorrhage and high blood pressure.
Born in a Brahmin family in Sant Kabir Nagar, Satyendra Das moved to Ayodhya in the 1950s, becoming a disciple of the renowned saint Abhiram Das. He earned a degree in Sanskrit in 1975 and subsequently served as an assistant teacher at the Sanskrit College in Ayodhya.
Throughout his tenure, Acharya Satyendra Das was a prominent figure in the Ram Mandir movement, witnessing its evolution over the decades. His contributions to the temple and the movement have been widely acknowledged.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Acharya Satyendra Das, recognising him as a symbol of faith and devotion.
The passing of Acharya Satyendra Das marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with the temple’s history and the broader Ram Mandir movement.
