Kejriwal Trails, Atishi Struggles, and Congress Fails to Make an Impact
As more rounds of counting conclude, it is becoming increasingly clear that the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader, Arvind Kejriwal, are set to be ousted. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), eyeing a grand comeback after 1988, is on course to form the government in the capital.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) website at 11:30 pm, the BJP is leading in 45 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections, while AAP holds 25 seats. The Congress, once a dominant force in Indian politics, has failed to make an impact yet again and has no significant presence.
As per the latest ECI data:
- AAP’s vote share: 43.33%
- BJP’s vote share: 46.70%
- Congress’ vote share: 6.69%
- No other party has managed to secure even 1% of the vote.
Arvind Kejriwal, contesting from the New Delhi constituency, is facing a tough challenge from BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh. As of 11:40 am, Kejriwal was trailing by 430 votes. Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit has so far managed to secure just 2,812 votes. Singh, currently leading, has secured 16,903 votes, while Kejriwal stands at 16,473 votes.
Delhi’s sitting Chief Minister Atishi is also struggling to maintain her lead. She has secured 22,561 votes, whereas BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri has received 25,792 votes, giving the latter a comfortable lead.
With counting still underway, all eyes remain on the final numbers, but the trends strongly indicate a historic victory for the BJP and a major setback for AAP and Congress in Delhi.
