Exit polls for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections suggest a major political shift, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poised to reclaim power in the capital. If the predictions hold, this could mark the end of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) decade-long dominance. However, AAP has strongly contested the exit poll results, calling them misleading and expressing confidence in retaining the government.
Projections from multiple agencies indicate a comfortable lead for the BJP, with some polls predicting a decisive majority. The Congress, which once ruled Delhi for 15 years, remains in the shadows with a minimal expected seat share. AAP, meanwhile, has dismissed the forecasts, pointing out that previous exit polls have often failed to reflect the final results.
The 2025 election witnessed a significant dip in voter turnout, registering just 60.42%—the lowest since 2008. This sharp decline contrasts with the 2015 and 2020 elections, where higher participation reflected intense electoral engagement. Political analysts suggest that voter fatigue, shifting alliances, and a lack of enthusiasm among certain sections may have contributed to the drop in numbers.
Despite the exit poll predictions, the final outcome remains uncertain. AAP leaders maintain that their ground-level support remains strong and that the results will prove the pollsters wrong. BJP, on the other hand, has welcomed the projections, seeing them as a sign of public discontent with AAP’s governance.
With the official results set to be declared on 8 February, both parties are making their final claims, preparing for what could be a dramatic electoral outcome. The next few days will determine whether Delhi witnesses a political upheaval or if AAP manages to defy predictions and hold its ground.
