The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is firmly on its way to a landslide victory in the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, ending the decade long rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Arvind Kejriwal has conceded defeat, saying he accepts the people’s mandate and will now focus on being a “constructive opposition.”

As of 3 pm on Saturday, as counting went on and results were pouring in quickly, Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP, was ahead on 47 of 70 Delhi Assembly seats, while Aam Aadmi Party, AAP, was leading on 23 seats. Of this, BJP has already put a winning stamp on 22 seats while AAP has cornered 11 seats. Congress, on the other hand, was nowhere and failed to open even its account.
With this, the political landscape of Delhi is completely changing. AAP, which dominated the last two elections, has been reduced to a much smaller presence in the Assembly.
Kejriwal congratulated BJP, promises strong Opposition
After the defeat, Kejriwal addressed the media, congratulating BJP on its victory and saying that AAP respects the people’s verdict.
“We accept the people’s mandate. We tried our best, but it was not enough. AAP will continue to serve the people and play the role of a constructive opposition,” he said.
Kejriwal’s loss in New Delhi to BJP’s Parvesh Verma was a major setback. Several of his top ministers also failed to retain their seats, leading to a collapse of AAP’s dominance in the capital.
BJP’s stunning comeback in Delhi
This victory marks BJP’s first return to power in Delhi since 1998. The party’s aggressive campaign, focused on national issues, governance, and a promise to overhaul Delhi’s administration, seems to have resonated with voters. BJP leaders have attributed their success to a combination of anti-incumbency against AAP, a strong local campaign, and the party’s central leadership.
