Today, four new movies have hit the screens in India, including the English film “A Real Pain”. This count excludes regional films released in other languages.

Leading the pack is Kangana Ranaut’s “Emergency”, her first film since becoming a Member of Parliament, and after commercial failures of “Dhaakad”, and “Tejas”. Additionally, Ranaut appeared in the Tamil film “Chandramukhi 2”. Here’s a glimpse of the first impressions from audiences and critics for the latest releases.

Dhaval Roy, writing for the “Times of India”, highlighted the film’s disjointed narrative, giving it 2.5 stars. He remarked, “Kangana Ranaut excels in the second half, particularly in the scenes after the Emergency is lifted.”

Movie enthusiasts have largely responded positively, though the film faced challenges in Punjab, where organisations like the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee or SGPC demanded a ban. Reports indicate the film’s release was halted in cities including Amritsar, Mansa, Barnala, Moga, and Patiala.

Azaad: Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, “Azaad” introduces newcomers Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, alongside Ajay Devgn, Diana Penty, and Piyush Mishra. Aaman is Ajay Devgn’s nephew, while Rasha is the daughter of Raveena Tandon.

Renowned critic Deepa Gehlot gave the film two stars in her review on Rediff.com, citing the lack of chemistry between the leads, poor styling, and their underdeveloped screen presence. Overall, the film has received mixed reviews, and the lukewarm buzz may affect its opening.

Mission Grey House: This suspense thriller, directed by Naushad Siddiquie and starring Abeer Khan, Puja Sharma, and Rajesh Sharma, has made little impact prior to its release. With a limited release, “Mission Grey House” is unlikely to stand its ground against the more prominent films at the box office.

Among these releases, Ranaut’s “Emergency” appears to have the brightest prospects, although it has opened to moderate collections. Share your thoughts on this week’s films if you’ve watched any of them.
